Ashtanga Yoga is regarded as a challenging form of yoga by the students and the trainers alike. Is it due to the difficult asanas incorporated? Or is it due to the strict routine that has to be followed? Well, it is a bit of both. To elaborate more let us look at a few things that make it challenging. These thoughts have been shared by students of 200 hours yoga teacher training in Rishikesh at Ojashvi Yoga shala.
The early morning time of practice – Early morning is the time when the body is stiff after a long night of rest and sleep. Stretching and bending in various asanas seems like the really difficult proposition. But Ashtanga Yoga needs to be practiced in the morning at sunrise starting with surya Namaskar. The strict timing makes it challenging for the students but advanced practitioners enjoy it.
The series of asana is long and tedious – Now that is something of a start. Ashtanga has 18 poses in the standing pose and even the finish is 14 poses long. The middle part consists of anywhere between 16 to 32 poses, and you cannot skip any of them. That is challenging, isn’t it?
Do it yourself concept – This is the only form of yoga which encourages self – practice. It is like going for morning walk alone and that can be boring. What is boring becomes a challenge to do daily.
The jump sequence – Most of the people hate this sequence which is an integral part of Ashtanga practice. It can also cause injury if not done in proper manner and is a bit of a challenge.
The daily practice and the Supta Kurmasana – This pose is really challenging for a beginner and many of them hate doing it. But this asana is very beneficial for the body and mind and you will become a pro after having some experience.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is not meant for people who want to have fun. It is meant for people who want to take the practice seriously , and reap the benefits of this routine invented by sages of ancient India.
